The Louise Ryrie School of Dance & Drama has just celebrated our 20th Anniversary. Currently training 300 pupils, from toddlers to adults, our team of dedicated teachers prepare pupils for exams, auditions & performances – or they can dance just for fun.
Ballet and Pilates are recommended for everyone, regardless of their age, size, dancing ambition or aims. These classes develop strength, flexibility, co-ordination, mind-body connection, spatial awareness, technique, posture and control.
The majority of classes and exams are held in our fully equipped Studio within St Elizabeth Church where we have a professional dance floor, full length mirrors, barres, stage & security entrance. We are proud of our fantastic team of caring, qualified teachers – most of whom grew up through the school. Emphasis is placed on creating a happy, friendly environment in which everyone feels able to enjoy learning to dance.
Opportunities to compete and perform are frequently offered to pupils. We have performed all over the town; from local summer fairs, Crawley Library, the Ifield Barn Theatre, The Hawth Theatre and further afield to London Theatres such as Her Majesty’s Theatre, Sadlers Wells and The Royal Albert Hall. We have workshopped with the cast of the Lion King musical, held in-house masterclasses with visiting Contemporary Dance companies, and many of our pupils have auditioned and appeared in professional pantomime, Operatic shows and with award-winning youth Ballet companies.
Past pupils have gone on to train full-time at university and colleges, and to work in the business both performing and teaching.
Our most recent school show Moving On Up - a Musical Show celebrating Inclusion was performed at the Hawth in July 2018. With a cast of over 200, it developed dancers performing arts skills including script work, dance, drama, singing and teamwork in a professional environment.
School principal Louise is also a writer, who has written numerous plays and productions for the school over the years.
As a school we look forward to welcoming new students each term of all ages, and sharing our experience and love of the performing arts.
